A vision of the grotesque, our morbid fascination with violence, and the aestheticization of war…

Every year in April I am reminded of two monumental poetic works which begin with the Earth’s springtime renewal: The Canterbury Tales from 1400 and The Waste Land from 1922. 

Gay and lesbian artists would be best served by curators and gallery-goers taking their work seriously as art, and rejecting the sexualized promotional copy which today passes for queer aesthetics.

The closure of public life provides a moment to reflect upon its usual reproduction, a question the club culture has not felt tasked to answer.
